Deep Segment

WINNER OF THE DEEP SEGMENT COMPETITION 2012: STANNY ABRAM!!!
After a week of deliberations we are proud to announce our 5 winners in this year’s challenge to make the best DJ mix from all the gems we featured in the Deep Segments during 2011.
The number of entries was even higher than last year and it was no easy task to determine who were the best five. But two days ago we finally reached a verdict, so here are the DJs who stuck to all the rules of the competition and truly moved us with their mixes:
– Hank Padilla (USA) It is nice to see that the show is gaining popularity even in the desert where we record the show. Hank is from New Mexico and delivered a solid mix that stays interesting from start to finish.

- Jorge Solo (Colombia) – A great journey through the techier side of the Deep Segments. Great mixing and captivating flow.

- Craig Meltzer (S.Africa) – A testament that the show is truly international comes from this talented DJ from South Africa. DJ C, aka Craig Meltzer. Craig was the best of all the entries that went for a mellow, laid back approach. This mix is where the Deep Segment tracks come to life in your car, living room, bedroom, boat… well, you get the point.

- T Mouse (USA) – Timothy Sorrels (aka T.Mouse) entered a mix for the second year, and again he made it to the final five. Amazing technical mixing in this entry, and the first half of the mix was screaming ‘winner’. However, our DJs agreed that with Timothy’s approach of layering many tracks over each other, the second half of the mix fell just short of perfection, which was probably due to the limited availability in track selection. But we are sure that when T.Mouse has free reign in track selection there is no stopping this DJ. Timothy went above and beyond the Deep stuff this year. He also did a mix of the Techno Corner selections from 2011, which is added as a bonus download on this page (scroll down)

- Stanny Abram (Slovenia) WINNER – For Stanny, this was also the second submission and the second time in the top 5. However, this time around, he came out on top. The DJ/producer from Slovenia is making quite a name for himself with his original productions, and in this mix he is showing off how to make people get up and dance. By far the most difficult part of this competition is to create a flow that contains the right energy to make people want to dance, while sticking to only deep tracks. Stanny does what any DJ should be doing; he creates an energetic vibe with his mix that the tracks by themselves could not create. Stanny’s mix will be featured as an entire episode of Glam Scum International, in next week’s show (February 16th)

Winner – Stanny Abram
Out of all entries, these five contestants stuck to the rules of the competition (some entries added their own selections and had to be disqualified) and created mixes that everyone at the Glam Scum studio likes to listen to over and over. Since there were only 50 songs to choose from, some mixes have the same titles. Some titles were never used and others were extremely popular. (Most used song was Tom Middleton’s mix of Beardyman)
About beat-matching: If your flow was amazing and once or twice you lost sync but you corrected it immediately, we didn’t care. But if your mixing was consistently off (even if it was slightly) we did not keep you in our selection. Especially with a studio-recorded mix that you can double check before you send it to us, it means that you yourself don’t hear or don’t care that your beat-matching is off, and you still have some homework to do.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the challenge for your time and effort, and we hope that even if you did not make it to the final five, you still had fun mixing these great tunes together, and PLEASE, if we ever decide to have another challenge like this, don’t hesitate to enter again!
